Jim is the president of ASA Central NM Chapter and also the Vice President of the NAPA AutoCare Group of NM. The 2 groups of professionals are made of shop owners of Mechanical, Collision and Transmission repair shops.
Here is a story of a recent drive that ASA of CNM in partnership with the NAPA AutoCare Group of NM participated in.
Blue Star Mothers are a national organization, that work to send treats and desired food and toiletry items to our men and women in the armed forces overseas. The two groups started collecting items on April 15 through May 30th 2010. A car was donated to the 2 groups by a small used car sales lot “Car Shop Dealership” it needed body work and required mechanical repairs. NAPA stepped up to the plate and donated necessary parts as well as other aftermarket suppliers like Keystone. The 2003 Mitsubishi was to be raffled off to raise money for Blue Star Mothers. A Pickup and trailer load of items were collected and delivered to the Blue Star Mothers, Rio Grande Valley Chapter warehouse for shipment. On Sunday, June 6th 2010 on the anniversary of D Day at the Albuquerque Veterans Memorial site, the 2 groups presented the raffled car to its new owner and presented a check for $10,000 to the BSM chapter. Due to the 2 groups efforts roughly 500 packages were able to be shipped to our soldiers overseas.
The new owner of the car then donated it to the “Gold Star Mothers” to be raffled off a second time. The Gold Star Mothers are mothers that have lost a child in our armed forces. ASA CNM will be working with the Gold Star Mothers to raise money for their needs.
